One of Westchester’s largest high schools is set to reopen to students after being forced to close due to damage caused by flooding during Hurricane Ida. On Friday, Oct. 29, the New Rochelle High School welcomed back select students, faculty and staff, with a complete reopening scheduled for Monday, Nov. 1 after weeks of cleanup and restoration efforts. Police Investigate Early Morning School Break-In In Westchester
Police are investigating an early-morning break-in at a middle school in Westchester. School officials in New Rochelle issued a notice to the community advising that the police department is investigating a break-in that happened between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at Isaac E. Young Middle School. A pair of schools in one of Westchester’s largest districts were forced to delay their reopening plans due to the damage caused by Tropical Depression Ida. In New Rochelle, both the high school and Isaac E. Young Middle Middle School sustained substantial damage, forcing contractors to make emergency repairs and delaying the reopening of the building to students and staff. A Westchester school district located inside one of the state’s precautionary COVID-19 micro-cluster “yellow zones” has completed its mandatory testing to remain open for in-person learning. 19: Westchester School To Stay Remote All Week, 48 Quarantined
Four dozen students and staffers in a Westchester school will enter a two-week quarantine after potentially being exposed to COVID-19 last week. Interim New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero alerted the community on Saturday, Oct. 31 that a staff member at Albert Leonard Middle School tested positive for the virus after last being in the building on Tuesday, Oct. 27. A Westchester middle school was forced to transition to remove learning after as many as five classes may have been exposed to the virus last week. Interim New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero announced that a staff member at Albert Leonard Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19 and was last in the building on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Westchester School District In Danger Of Losing State Aid
The New Rochelle School District is in danger of losing state aid because two middle schools will not meet the required number of instructional hours for students. Parents were made aware of this issue this week when interim Superintendent Magda Parvey sent a letter detailing the issue at hand.
