New Rankings: These Westchester Locales Among Safest In State A new report from Safewise.com named nearly two dozen Hudson Valley municipalities among the 50 "safest cities" in New York. Based on the latest FBI report, the state boasts a property crime rate 40 percent less than the national average, the site said. Nearly 50 New York towns have a violent crime rate that's 94 percent lower than the national average. The No. 1 safest city on the list is Lewisboro, followed by Briarcliff Manor. Woman Convicted In Bench Trial After Deaths Of Nine Horses At Area Farm A 52-year-old woman was found guilty Tuesday of 10 felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals in connection with the deaths of nine horses on a farm in the area. Jeanne Ryan of Goshen was also found guilty of the mistreatment of another horse, which survived, as well as for overdriving, torturing, injuring, and underfeeding the horses.  She was remanded to the Orange County Jail until her sentencing on Sept. 6, said the Orange County District Attorney's Office. O'Donnell would become the second Republican candidate in a race to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of Cold Spring in November. O'Donnell, 66, is a retired police commander and Goshen resident who has worked in county government for about 10 years, first in the administration of former County Executive Ed Diana and then as a county legislator.  Maloney has attracted national attention as a leading critic of President Donald Trump and advocate for gay rights.

She was 43 years old.  A graduate of Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, she was a special education teacher for the Orange/Ulster BOCES in Goshen.
