School District In New England Held Racially Segregated Events, Lawsuit Claims

The Parents Defending Education organization in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, is accusing Wellesley Public Schools of discrimination by creating certain affinity groups for communities of color. It is further alleged that Wellesley held segregated events for students where some were invited but white students were excluded. “It is appalling that an American public school has consciously im…

Cuomo Signs Bill Banning Sale Of Confederate Flags In New York
A new bill signed into law by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo will ban the sale of Confederate flags and other “hate symbols” on state property. Cuomo announced the new ban this week, which includes the flag, Nazi symbols, and other similar symbols of hate that can no longer be sold in public in New York, though there are some exceptions if they are used for educational or historical purposes. “This country faces a pervasive, growing attitude of intolerance and hate — what I have referred to in the body politic as an American cancer,” Cuomo said. "By limiting the display and sale of the confed…

Judge In Hudson Valley Rules Mary Trump Can Publicize Newly Released Tell-All Book On Her Uncle
There’s going to be another member of the Trump family making the media rounds after a New York Judge gave the green light for Mary Trump to promote her controversial tell-all book. Hal Greenwald, a judge for the 9th Judicial District Supreme Court in the Hudson Valley, lifted a temporary restraining order on President Donald Trump’s niece, much to the chagrin of her father, Robert. In a lawsuit last month, citing a confidentiality agreement Mary signed in 2011, Robert sought an injunction to prevent promotion of "Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created The World's Most Dangerous M…

Cuomo Slams Trump For 'His Assault On Abortion Rights'
After seeing his state’s abortion laws singled out during Tuesday’s State of the Union address, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo hit back at President Donald Trump, chastising him in a New York Times op-ed. "Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments from birth," Trump said, referencing the Reproductive Health Act, which was signed into law last month. "These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world.” The president also called on …

Texting Their Patience: New Yorkers Sue Trump, FEMA Over Presidential Alert No Opt Out
A lawsuit has been filed in New York following Wednesday’s test of FEMA’s new “presidential alert” notification system. On Wednesday, Oct. 3, the initial test of FEMA’s new system went off for most Americans at around 2:15 p.m. The message was sent to cell phones similar to AMBER alerts and inclement weather warnings that are currently in place. However, not everyone was pleased about the alert, and three New York plaintiffs have filed a lawsuit in Manhattan against President Donald Trump and FEMA officials. They are claiming that the alert system is a “violation of Americans' First and Fo…

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s re-election campaign has filed a cease-and-desist letter to television stations trying to have his Republican challenger's new ad pulled from the air, claiming it is “false, misleading and defamatory” because the news article cited does not say that Cuomo himself is being probed as part of the Crystal Run investigation. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, Cuomo's GOP opponent, unveiled the TV ad this past weekend slamming Cuomo of New Castle about corruption convictions involving some top state aides and advisers. “It is false, cheap and nasty,” Cuomo campaign spoke…

Cuomo Goes National In Battle Against NRA
The National Rifle Association, the nation's top pro-gun lobby and one of its most powerful interest groups, said regulatory efforts by Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New Castle could make it “unable to exist as a not-for-profit or pursue its advocacy mission." Cuomo, on Twitter, responded: "If I could have put the @NRA out of business, I would have done it 20 years ago. I'll see you in court." In a July 20 amended complaint, first reported by the New York Law Journal, the NRA accused Cuomo, as well as state Department of Financial Services Superintendent Maria Vullo, of issuing a “ser…
