Blaze Damages Condominium Building In Mahopac A residence inside a Hudson Valley condominium complex was left damaged by a fire. According to the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department, the incident happened in Putnam County on Friday, April 26, just before 6:40 p.m., when a blaze began inside a unit at a condominium building in Mahopac on East Lake Boulevard. Arriving crews soon realized they would need more manpower to tackle the blaze, so they received help from the Mahopac Falls, Croton Falls, Carmel, and Yorktown Heights fire departments, the Carmel Police Department, and the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services. Man Barricades Himself Into Mahopac Apartment With Fake Handgun: Police A 23-year-old man was taken into custody after barricading himself in a Hudson Valley apartment with what appeared to be a handgun, police announced. The incident began in Putnam County on Monday, Feb. 19 around 10:20 p.m., when residents told authorities that they had seen a neighbor flash a black handgun in a threatening manner before fleeing to his apartment on East Lake Boulevard (Route 72) in Mahopac, according to Carmel Police.  Police soon arrived and established a perimeter around the apartment while also evacuating adjacent units. Joseph Vitale, Three-Sport Standout At Mahopac HS, Dies At 37 A Putnam County MMA fighter and deli co-owner died unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 29 at the age of 37.  Born in White Plains on Feb. 7, 1983, Joseph A. Vitale owned and operated Anthony's Deli with his father, Anthony, on East Lake Boulevard, which is now permanently closed according to Google. He had been a Mahopac resident since he was in the fourth grade, according to his obituary.  In 2001, Joe graduated from Mahopac High School before studying business at Johnson and Wales College in Providence, Rhode Island.
