Rising freshman are encouraged to attend the event from 2-5 p.m. on Aug. 31 at Somers High School, 120 Primrose St., Lincolndale.

The orientation and Freshman Monitoring Program is designed to help make the transition from middle to high school a “smoother and fluid one,” said Somers High School in a statement. Juniors and seniors will serve as mentors to freshmen throughout the year as part of the monitoring program.

The orientation will include a tour of the campus and an opportunity to locate classes, lockers and a chance to familiarize oneself with the school. Peer leaders will also run large and small group activities aimed at addressing student’s needs and concerns.

Somers High encourages students to wear comfortable clothes and travel light, including no backpacks, iPods or cell phones.
