An 18-year-old Mahopac teen was killed during a crash in which his vehicle struck a pine tree and then the car burst into flames.

John Rossetti, 18, was killed around 11:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, when his gray Honda Civic struck the tree on Woodbine Drive, came to rest on its passenger side, and then the engine block and tree burst into flames, said Carmel Police Lt. John Dearman.

Carmel Officer Christopher Fox pulled the unconscious driver out of the car as the fire began spreading into the passenger compartment, Dearman said.

Officer Neil Brown assisted Fox to carry Rossetti away from the vehicle fire.

EMStar medic along with Mahopac Ambulance transported Rossetti to Putnam Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Mahopac Fire Department extinguished the car fire
