Police Apprehend Man After High-Speed I-684 Chase

SOMERS, N.Y. -- New York State Police apprehended a 31-year-old Connecticut man after a high-speed chase on I-684 on Sunday.

Daquan D. Smith of New Milford, Conn., has been charged with Reckless Endangerment, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, and Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, according to state police.

Troopers observed a Nissan Altima driving more than 80 miles per hour on I-684. When the patrol attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Smith, continued speeding according to police.

During the pursuit, Smith nearly struck two troopers on a separate traffic stop. The vehicle exited at Exit 6A (Route 22 to Route 138 in Goldens Bridge) and hit a guide rail, according to police.

Smith was taken into custody without further incident and was not injured as a result of the crash. He had a Blood Alcohol Content of .06 percent and was arraigned before the Town of Bedford Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail with a $10,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond, according to police.
