The driver, who has not been named, hit the pole in Katonah around 4:48 a.m. Sunday, closing the busy interstate for more than 15 hours.
The truck moved the concrete median about 20-feet, breaking bolts, but the driver did not receive any serious injuries, said Trooper AJ Hicks.
Getting a special crane to the area to move the sign and truck, which couldn't be moved because the assembly would collapse, was the main holdup in reopening the highway, Hicks said.
A group of troopers had to be sent to escort the truck with the giant crane to the scene because of the backed-up traffic, he added.
Southbound traffic was diverted off I-684 at Exit 8 in Croton Falls while the scene was cleared. The southbound lanes finally re-opened around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Information was not immediately available as to whether the driver was charged or written a ticket.
