SOMERS, N.Y. - A carnival, a coffeehouse and a martial arts demonstration are some of the events planned for the weekend.
Friday, April 27
Lions Club Carnival: 6 p.m. Rides start at the Somers Lions Club Carnival. There are rides, games, prizes, performers and lots of treats to eat. The event continues throughout the weekend. The event takes place at Firemans Field on Route 202 in Somers.
STAT Coffeehouse: 7-11 p.m. Somers High Schools Students Taking Action Today will sponsor an evening of coffee, snacks and entertainment to raise money for the school children of the LaCarpio Refugee Camp, a settlement of Nicaraguan refugees in Costa Rica. Money will be put toward providing blue socks, part of the Costa Rican school uniform, for the refugee children. Everyone is welcome. The event takes place at the High School Commons. Tickets are $10 at the door. Somers High School is at 120 Primrose St. in Lincolndale.
Saturday, April 28
Dumpster at WEC: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Westchester Exceptional Childrens School is providing a dumpster for your unwanted stuff. The charge is $20 per carload, $40 per pickup truck. Shredding services are an additional $5. No flammable or hazardous materials and no prescription drugs are allowed. Proceeds go to the school so your contribution is tax deductible. Bring your disposable junk to 520 Route 22 in North Salem.
Second Annual World Tai Chi Day: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tai Chi and Kung Fu demonstrations by world masters, as well as talks about Tai Chi weapons and classical Chinese dance and culture, are just a few of the events that will fill out the day at the Hammond Museum. Shiatsu massage will be available throughout the day and Tibetan healing sounds will resound in the garden. For more information, call (914) 669-5033. Practice the ACT Exam: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Here is a chance for high school students to practice taking the ACT exam. Participants must bring pencils and a calculator. Spaces are limited so call the Somers Library for a reservation. (914) 232-5717. The library is at 82 Primrose St., Somers.
Lions Club Carnival: 1 p.m. Rides start at the giant carnival in Firemans Field, Route 202, Somers.
The SEF Parent Prom: 7 p.m. to midnight. The Somers Education Foundation sponsors the Parent Prom, an evening of dining, dancing, raffles and special tributes to community members. Festive attire is suggested. Tickets are $110 per person, $95 for teachers. The event takes place at the Brynwood Country Club, Route 22, Armonk.
Somers Dog Park Fundraiser: 8 p.m. Somers Progressive Animal Hospital is sponsoring a fundraiser for the forthcoming dog park. Spend the evening enjoying good food and good music while you indirectly make a contribution to a good cause. The Lovell Street Grill & Alehouse will donate 10 percent of days proceeds to the new dog park and half of your entry fee also will go to the park. Tickets are $10 each. The Lovell Street Grill & Alehouse is at 152 Lovell St., Lincolndale.

Spring Migration Bird Walk: 8 a.m. Muscoot Farm invites birders to join naturalist Paul Lewis in a search for warblers and other birds as they migrate home to the farm for spring. There is no charge. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
Lions Club Carnival: 1 p.m. Rides start at the final day of the giant carnival in Firemans Field, Route 202, Somers.
Poultry Day at Muscoot: 1-3 p.m. Muscoots junior volunteers will be on hand to teach you about the different breeds of poultry at the farm and why they are kept there. There is no charge. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
