The Beauty of Conceptual Art: 6 p.m. Jim Sparks will talk about the contemporary artwork exhibited at the DIA Foundation and proved insights into why controversial or confrontational works are considered art, and why they are important to art historians. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Somers Library, 82 Primrose St., Somers.

Tuesday, May 1

Northern Westchester College Fair: 6-9 p.m. High School students are invited to the area’s New York State-sponsored college fair for a chance to speak to admissions representatives from many colleges and learn about campus life, academic programs, financial aid and admissions requirements. The New York Higher Education Services Corporation will have a booth offering the latest financial aid information and answers to your questions. Fox Lane High School, Route 172, Bedford.

Wednesday, May 2

Somers Energy & Environment Committee: 7 p.m. The committee will meet at the Van Tassell Park Recreation Center, Route 139, Somers.

Thursday, May 3

Bus Drivers Appreciation Breakfast: 9-10:15 a.m. The Somers PTA Council is sponsoring a special breakfast to honor and say thank you to all the bus drivers who transport the district’s children to school. In addition to a meal, drivers will receive small gifts and goody bags. Primrose School Cafeteria, Route 139, Lincolndale.

Somers Dog Park: 6:30 p.m. There will be a $4,000 check presentation to the dog park committee from a Somers resident honoring his dog who has passed. The presentation will take place at the site of the proposed park on Route 100 between Mamma Rosa's Restaurant and the Somers Highway Department.

Dedication of Holocaust Collection: 6:30 p.m. The Somers Holocaust Memorial Commission invites the public to celebrate the re-dedication of the Fred Bachner Holocaust Collection with the new aquisistion of books. A reception follows the event. Somers Library, 82 Primrose St., Somers.

Somers Town Board Work Session: 7:30 p.m. Among the items on the agenda is the appointment of an individual to fill the vacant Town Board seat until a new member is elected. The session will take place at the Somers Town House, 335 Route 202, Somers.
