SOMERS, N.Y. -- The Somers Energy & Environment Committee is scheduled to hold a talk about the proposed Algonquin Pipeline expansion.
The proposed expansion, from Spectra Energy, will go through Westchester and Putnam counties, according to the group. The committee is critical of the proposal, arguing that an expansion of a compressor station in the Putnam town of Southeast will lead to more emissions in Somers.
"This expansion undermines the Town of Somers? commitment to sustainability and renewable energy," an event flyer states.
The event's speaker will be Susan Van Dolsen, who co-founded the group Stop the Algonquin Pipeline Expansion, or SAPE.
At a Somers Town Board meeting in July, the matter was raised and a potential voting resolution was brought up. The Town Board did not vote on a resolution, although a future vote was not ruled out. Van Dolsen, a Rye resident, spoke at the meeting.
