Spring Into Katonah in Somers

SOMERS, N.Y. – Somers’ Lasdon Park and Arboretum will host “Spring Into Katonah: A Celebration of the Senses,” on Thursday, an evening of music, wine tastings, food and cultural exhibits, all centered on the town of Katonah and many of its splendid features.

Katonah was one of the settlements in this area that had to pull up stakes when the Cross River Reservoir was completed in 1897. More than 50 of the town’s original buildings were dragged to new sites by teams of draft horses, towing pallets of rolling logs. The hamlet, which is part of the Town of Bedford, is still noted for its handsome Victorian residences and its turn-of-the-century shopping district.

Samples of the town’s culinary specialties will be offered by the Blue Dolphin, the Blue Pig, the Katonah Restaurant, NoKa Joe’s, Peppino’s, Sweet Tooth, William Nicholas, Brian Ledley Caterers, Scaglio’s and others. The Capt. Lawrence Brewing Company and The Finer Winer will offer spirited sips, while Gerard Carelli, who has accompanied Rosemary Clooney, Johnny Mathis, Gerry Mulligan and Ray Charles, will provide the background music.

From Katonah’s impressive group of cultural venues, there will be exhibits by the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, the Katonah Museum of Art, the Katonah Library and the Katonah Chamber of Commerce. The Bedford Audubon Society and Muscoot Farm will also be represented.

Guests will be invited to tour the Lasdon gardens and enjoy the botanical art show in the main house. The Veterans Museum will also be open and the Lasdon Garden Shop will be offering plants and garden gifts for sale.

“Spring into Katonah: A Celebration of the Senses” takes place on Thursday, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Lasdon Glass House Conservatory project and the Katonah Chamber of Commerce. In case of bad weather, the event will be held on May 31.
