SOMERS, N.Y. Scores of grieving friends have left messages on the Facebook page of Alex Bergman, 23, who was found dead in a Ridgefield, Conn., swimming pool Monday.
Bergman was a 2007 graduate of North Salem High School. Although the Bergman family lives in Somers, their address falls within the North Salem School District.
Damon Quattrochi wrote that he remembered, like it was yesterday, when we were kids and our moms would make big jugs of iced tea for us to sell at our cheesy little iced tea stand together, and, the first time I smoked a cigarette (with you and Erik of course) and how I prayed my mom wouldn't find out.
Quattrochi was referring to Erik Nicoletti, Bergmans close friend, who was struck and killed by a car in 2009. Several of the messages mention Nicoletti. Now you can hang with Erik and laugh at us from up there, wrote Peter Robaudo.
Michael Actis-Grande wrote, Despite moving miles apart to go to college, ours was a friendship that remained perfectly intact. No matter how long it had been, as soon as we saw each other it was like we had never left in the first place. He ended his tribute with, Say Hi to Erik for me and maybe CC him on this, you know?
North Salems superintendent of schools, Ken Freeston, said on behalf of the high school faculty, We are all saddened deeply by this news. Alex was a gifted writer, thinker, a friend to all who knew him. A wonderful student and person in every way. We express our deepest sympathies to Alexs family and friends.
After graduating from North Salem High School, Bergman attended Boston College and went on to work at a J&J Pharmacy in New Jersey. During the summer between high school and college, he worked as a counselor at Somers' Summer Trails Day Camp.
We were co-counselors and we kept in touch afterward, said Brian Marschhauser. We used to talk about rap music. He was a big sports fan the Yankees, the Jets and the Rangers. He was one of the nicest kids Ive ever met. We always texted. In fact, I was planning to text him on Saturday. Now I wish I had.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
