David McNamara, 91, Somers Publisher

SOMERS, N.Y. – David P. McNamara, of Somers, died April 1. He was 91.  

A medical journal publisher, McNamara created and ran Macor Publishing in New York City.  

The son of the late John F. and Florence (Riordan) McNamara, he was born Sept. 3, 1920 in Great Barrington, Mass. He was raised in Garden City, N.Y. and he graduated from Garden City High School in 1938. 

McNamara served in the U.S. Army from January of 1942 to September of 1945 with the 29th Division, landing at Omaha Beach during the Normandy Invasion. He was decorated with the Silver Star, Bronze Star and air medals. He later served with the National Guard in the 42nd Infantry Division.  

Prior to running his publishing business, McNamara was senior vice president at William Douglas McAdams, a pharmaceutical advertising agency in New York City. 

He is survived by his children, Owen McNamara of Bloomfield, Conn., Mimi (James) Hopgood of Boonton, N.J., Katie (Rick) Brunner of Bedford Hills and Margherita (Bryan) Farrell of Darien, Conn., his brother Eugene McNamara of Phoenix, Ariz., his sisters, Jane Coughlin and Brenda Millette of Northampton Mass. and seven grandchildren. McNamara was predeceased by his wife, Nina. 

Arrangements are by Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah. A private family cremation was held and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
