After Remains Of NY Woman Found In Woods, Police Push For Answers In Chilling Cold Case

The remains of Amanda King, 27, were found in the Burden Pond Preserve in Troy, near Campbell Avenue, on Oct. 20, 2024, according to Troy Police Assistant Chief Steven Barker. A local resident stumbled upon the remains, leading police to the scene.

Now, investigators are asking for the public’s help in piecing together how King’s remains ended up in Troy and what led to her death.

“We urge anyone who may have information related to Amanda's case, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward,” Troy Police said on Tuesday, March 11.

A native of Glenville in Schenectady County, King was 27 years old when she disappeared in November 2013. Her remains were positively identified through dental records and DNA analysis, Barker said.

With the case now reopened, Troy Police, in collaboration with the Albany Police Department and the New York State Police Cold Case Unit, are working to determine the circumstances surrounding King’s disappearance and death.

“Your cooperation could be vital in helping us piece together the circumstances surrounding her death,” the agency said.

Authorities urged anyone with information—no matter how small—to come forward, assuring that all tips will be handled with confidentiality and care.
