A low pressure system moving west to east is likely to bring a wintry mix of rain and snow to the area Saturday.

As morning snow gives way to clouds, the wintry mix is likely to start after 11 a.m. with the chance of precipitation is 70 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible, according to the National Weather Service.

With temperatures climbing to around 40 degrees during the day, roads are unlikely to be slick as a result of the wintry mix.

Precipitation should change to all rain later during the day, followed by a chance of snow before 9 p.m. and a slight chance of snow from 9 p.m. to midnight. New accumulation of a half inch is possible.

A freeze watch has been issued for midnight Sunday until 10 a.m. Sunday.

The conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation, the National Weather Service said.

The sun will return Sunday and it should warm up to around 45. Sunday night will be mostly cloudy with lows around freezing, forecasters say.

More precipitation is coming Monday and Tuesday, but temperatures will be more seasonable, with a high of 54 Monday during the day, and near 60 on Tuesday.

But with temperatures around the freezing mark, the precipitation could start as snow Monday morning before turning to rain around 7a.m.

The region shakes off the wintry blahs on Wednesday, forecasters say, as the sun banishes rain clouds and temperatures reach 55.
