Firefighters Battle Blaze, Smoke, Weather In Westchester Firefighters in Mount Vernon had to deal with difficult conditions on Monday afternoon as they battled both the weather, and a massive fire that broke out in the upper level of a local home. Flames and smoke could be seen billowing from the second story of a home on Johnson Street, near the intersection of West Kingsbridge Road in Mount Vernon, fire officials confirmed.
