A dozen of Tufts University's 50 lacrosse players were sidelined earlier this month with a muscle-destroying illness following a grueling workout led by a Navy SEAL, school officials said. As of press time three of the reigning NCAA Division III National Championship players remained in the hospital recovering from rhabdomyolysis, or, as it's more simply known, "rhabdo," Tufts officials said. Lacrosse Players Remain Hospitalized Days After Practice With Navy SEAL Trainee
Several members of a Massachusetts university lacrosse team are hospitalized after falling ill with a rare muscle-destroying illness after a practice with a Navy SEAL trainee. Twelve members of the Tufts University men's lacrosse team were taken to an area hospital and treated for rhabdomyolysis, according to the school's spokesperson. College Athlete From Hudson Valley Died After Choking During Charity Contest, Report Says
A college student from the Hudson Valley who died over the weekend in Massachusetts choked during an eating contest for charity, according to a report. Rockland County resident Madie Nicpon, age 20, a 2019 graduate of Suffern High School, was a junior at Tufts University in Massachusetts. Nicpon choked during a hot dog eating contest held at an off-campus home and died of her injuries at Massachusetts General Hospital on Sunday, Oct. 17, according to a report by WCVB, ABC 5 in Boston. A Mount Kisco resident and shop owner, six-year Bedford school board member Suzanne Grant, died Sunday, Sept. 1, at age 56. She was born on Oct. 8, 1962, in Rochester to Ronald (deceased) and Dolores Sibs. Grant was a graduate of Tufts University. She was a member of the Bedford Central School Board for six years, and a local volunteer. She was also the co-proprietor of PORCH Home + Gifts, a retail store in Mount Kisco. Five students in Westchester and Rockland counties have earned SUEZ-NAWC scholarships worth $3,000.
