Woman Killed After Fire Breaks Out At Westchester Condo Complex
A woman was killed in a two-alarm fire that tore through a condo complex in Northern Westchester, officials announced. First responders from the Somers Volunteer Fire Department responded to Heritages Hills on the West Hill shortly after 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, where there was a reported structure fire. 37-Year-Old Firefighter In Region Dies In Line Of Duty
A 37-year-old firefighter in the region died in the line of duty. The Sullivan County Bureau of Fire and the Forestburgh Fire District said that Assistant Chief William J. Steinberg died on Saturday, Jan. 15 while operating at a mutual aid structure fire. Steinberg, who was known as "Billy," was battling a second-alarm fire in Monticello, according to authorities. Heavy Smoke At Popular Area Restaurant Prompts Fire Department Response
This story has been updated. Heavy smoke at a popular Mahopac restaurant prompted a quick fire department response early Sunday morning, allowing the eatery to open as planned for Father's Day. Just before 4:30 a.m., the Mahopac Falls Fire Department and a unit from Carmel Police were dispatched to the Holy Smoke restaurant on Route 6N for a commercial fire alarm, according to Jack Casey of the MFFD.
