Former Fire Chief Of Westchester Department Dies: 'Exemplified Meaning Of Brother' A former fire chief and Navy veteran from Northern Westchester is being remembered for his dedication to his town throughout his 53-year department membership.  Robert H. Meyer, the former chief of the Pound Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, died on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the age of 88, according to his obituary.  Before becoming a firefighter, Meyer began his career in 1953 as an electrician in the Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1957. Dumpster Fire Ignites, Threatens Barn In Westchester A dumpster full of hay and other yard debris almost caused the destruction of a barn in Northern Westchester after it went up in flames.  The incident happened on Tuesday, Aug. 15 just before noon, when firefighters from the Pound Ridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to a dumpster fire that had ignited close to a barn in the town, department members said on Saturday, Aug. 19.  Arriving firefighters soon saw that a dumpster filled with hay and other yard-related material had caught on fire and that the homeowner was attempting to douse the flames using a garden hose.  Cr…

Burnt Food At Popular Westchester Deli/Country Store Brings Fire Department Just before 4:30 a.m. Thursday a whole contingent of dedicated firefighters responded to a popular Westchester County deli and market for a fire call but found instead burnt food. South Salem and Vista fire department were dual dispatched to a reported structure fire at the 5th Division Deli in Cross River, the South Salem Fire Department said.
