A police officer is being recognized for his brave rescue of a dog who had become trapped behind a gate on the third floor of a burning building in Northern Westchester. The rescue happened on Thursday, April 13, when a fire broke out in an apartment building in Ossining on Croton Avenue and a dog named Cujo became trapped on the third floor behind a gate. Horse Dies On Set Of HBO Series Being Filmed In NY
Following the death of a horse during the filming of an HBO series on Long Island, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is requesting the network investigate. The horse died in Nassau County on Tuesday, June 28, during the filming of the highly popular series "The Gilded Age." Melissa Flores, a seventh- and eighth-grade teacher at Enrico Fermi School in Yonkers, was one of three runners-up from across the US in this year’s Teacher Appreciation Contest from TeachKind. A $5,000 reward has been offered by PETA as they attempt to locate the culprit responsible for trapping a Chihuahua inside a tied-up garbage bag and put it in a sealed container in Westchester. Employees from the Paws Crossed Animal Rescue on Warehouse Lane in Elmsford noticed a blue plastic storage container at their front entrance at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, according to Lisa Bonanno-Spence, the Director of Development for the SPCA of Westchester. A police department in the area will be receiving an award from PETA after two officers rescued a deer that found itself caught in a makeshift hammock. A Compassionate Police Department Award is on its way from PETA to the Yonkers Police Department after officers Matthew Donaldson and David MacDonald rescued the buck, whose antlers were caught in a makeshift hammock outside a home on Arthur Place on Monday morning.
