Widespread Bank Of America Outages Being Reported
Many Bank of America customers are reporting issues accessing their accounts. First reports of the problems began just before 1 pm. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, with about 20,000 customers sharing outages on the website Downdetector.com. Some said they were stunned to see zero balances on their accounts. Others said they could not see their account balances. Issues with online and mobile systems, and ATM services are being reported. Check Fraud On Rise In Westchester: Often Stolen From Mail, Altered, Police Say
Authorities in Westchester are warning residents of an increase in "check washing," a scheme where checks are stolen from the mail and altered by criminals. The warning was issued on Wednesday, Feb. 28 by the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, which is currently investigating a rise in check fraud. According to the department, the "check washing" schemes consist of criminals stealing mail in bulk looking for checks made payable to recipients. Online Bank Of America Outage Affects Thousands
Thousands of customers were locked out of their accounts when Bank of America’s online banking system temporarily went down. Early on Friday, Oct. 1, the company’s system experienced the issues, according to Bank of America, leading to more than 12,000 customers making complaints to Down Detector, which found that they were unable to access balances or transfer money as many were looking to pay rent on the first of the month. Residents in the area are being warned about scams that seem to be on the increase. The scams provide ways for criminals will attempt to get money from people by contacting them and making up elaborate stories, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said in the warning to residents of Dutchess and nearby counties in New York and Connecticut.
