According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 1,600 cases of lung injury associated with use of an e-cigarette or vaping product have been reported. Vaping products that contain THC (one of the active components of cannabis that affects brain activity), particularly those that have been obtained on the street, are linked to most of the outbreaks. Spano Calls For Ban On Flavored E-Cigarettes In Yonkers
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano is calling for a citywide ban on the sale of flavored e-cigarette products. Spano and members of the City Council announced the proposed ban, which would make Yonkers potentially the first city in New York State to ban the sale of flavored e-cigarettes. “E-cigarettes are widely accepted as an addicting gateway drug targeted at our youth. Age To Buy Tobacco, Vaping Products Upped To 21 By Westchester Legislators
This story has been updated. The County Board of Legislators has voted to raise the age limit for the sale of tobacco and related products in Westchester from 18 to 21. County Executive George Latimer is expected to sign the new legislation into law at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, making it effective in 60 days.
