Extensive Search For Distressed Vessel Conducted Off Westchester Coast: Police A report of a possible overturned kayak prompted authorities to conduct an extensive search of the Westchester shoreline in order to find the distressed vessel.  The incident happened on Tuesday, Oct. 24 around 6:45 p.m., when the City of Rye Police Department received a report of a vessel in distress on Long Island Sound in the area of Transport Rock.  According to the department, witnesses told authorities that they had seen a kayak with red and green lights off the coast of the Edith Read Sanctuary. However, they soon lost sight of the kayak and became worried that it had overturned.  …

Three Rescued After Sailboating Accident In Westchester, Police Say Three were rescued from the Long Island Sound after crashing their sailboat into a rock, police in Westchester said. New Rochelle Police officers responded in Marine I to Davenport Reef on the Long Island Sound at approximately 6:44 p.m. on Monday, May 31, when a 27-foot sailboat struck a rock and took on water. Police said that the captain of the sailboat was able to navigate the boat toward the Davenport Beach Club and began capsizing approximately 100 yards off the shore.
