Man Found Burning Near Busy Roadway In Fairfield County A man lying horizontally was found burning after police in Fairfield County responded to a call for a possible fire near a popular park. The incident took place in New Canaan around 8:45 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10 in the area of Lapham Road near Waveny Park.  Preliminary evidence "does support that this incident is most likely a suicide," New Canaan Police said. Quick Work Of Firefighters Saves Westchester Home Quick action by firefighters from the Vista and South Salem fire departments saved a family's home following a basement fire. The fire started around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at 87 East St., in South Salem, according to Vista Fire Chief Jeff Peck.  Once on scene, firefighters found smoke showing from inside the home and quickly determined the fire was coming from the basement. After running hoses, firefighters were able to knock down the fire within minutes, Peck said.
