A blaze that ignited in the attic of a Northern Westchester residence proved to be a tough battle for firefighters thanks to gusty winds. The blaze began on Thursday, March 21 just after 1 p.m. at a residence in Buchanan, according to the Croton-on-Hudson and Millwood Fire Departments. The identities have been released of the motorist killed and the other driver involved in a two-vehicle crash in Northern Westchester. It happened at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 on Kings Ferry Road in the hamlet of Montrose in the town of Cortlandt. Two Croton Public Works employees were rescued by members from the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department after being stranded in the Croton River. The rescue took place a little after 9 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, when the department was notified of an overturned boat with two people in the water near the Croton River's Silver Lake Park, said the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department. Several families were left homeless following a fire at a three-story home in Northern Westchester.The fire started around 6:15 p.m. Sunday at 1049 Main St., in Peekskill, according to the Peekskill Fire Department. On what would have otherwise been a rainy weekend, 80 local law enforcement officers revved their engines Sunday at the start of a 46-mile ride for fallen colleagues.
