Emergency Dismissals At Two Westchester Schools After Strong Paint Fumes Fill Part Of Buildings
Students at two Northern Westchester schools were released early due to paint fumes, the school district said. At approximately 9:30 am, Friday, Dec. 13, paint fumes began to fill the halls of Westlake Middle School and Westlake High School in Mount Pleasant, said Mount Pleasant Central School District Superintendent Dr. Kurtis Kotes. According to Kotes, the source of the fumes was quickly determined to be from paint being used by a contractor who was painting the Westlake Middle School boiler room. Electrical Fire At High-Rise Westchester Apartment Forces Hundreds To Evacuate
Hundreds of Westchester residents were forced to evacuate a 19-story high rise apartment building in Yonkers when a fire broke out, officials said. A fire broke out at a Central Park Avenue apartment complex shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Flynn said. The fire forced approximately 250 units to be cleared after flames broke out in the building. Westchester Elementary School Evacuated For Gas Smell
A Westchester elementary school had to be temporarily evacuated when the smell of gas was reported in the area. Colonial Elementary School in Pelham was evacuated as a precaution at approximately noon on Friday, Sept. 27, when there was reports of the smell of gas near the building. Members from the Pelham Fire Department, Pelham Police Department and Con Edison all responded to the scene to investigate the gas odor. Earlier Daily Voice report: Emergency Closing Ordered At School After Discovery Of Mold Several hundred students seen their classes relocated as emergency cleanup efforts are underway at a local school that tested positive for dangerous black mold in several classrooms. On Monday, there was an emergency closing of the K-8 Paideia School 15 in Yonkers after ceiling tiles in the building tested positive for the mold.
