Nearly 50-Year-Old Westchester Business Expanding With New Store
A longtime Northern Westchester business is expanding its presence with a new store, marking the next milestone in its nearly five-decade-long history.
The new store, which will be built on a five-acre lot at 2010 Maple Hill St. in Yorktown, will be the future home of Atlantic Appliance, a business that has been serving the area since 1975, Yorktown town officials announced on Friday, Nov. 22.
The 25,720-square-foot, two-story building will include retail, office, and warehouse space and incorporate numerous environmental protections, according to Yorktown officials.

27-Year-Old Nabbed In Stolen Vehicle In Westchester, Police Say
A 27-year-old man allegedly driving a stolen vehicle was nabbed in Northern Westchester following a traffic stop.
Dutchess County resident Zef Ljucovic, 27, of Millbrook, was arrested around 4:19 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 25, following a traffic stop in Yorktown, said Yorktown Police.
According to police, a Yorktown officer on patrol was advised of a possible stolen vehicle traveling northbound on the Taconic Parkway.
The officer responded to the area and located a vehicle matching the description of a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee in the area of Crompond Road, police said.

Motorcyclist Hits 100 MPH In Taconic Parkway Police Chase, Police Say
A 36-year-old motorcyclist who tried to outrun Yorktown Police attempting a to stop him for speeding was eventually nabbed after police had to call off the chase.
The chase took place around 5:52 p.m., Saturday, March 27, when a Yorktown Police officer attempted to stop Kafian Gooden, of East Hartford, Connecticut, for speeding on Crompond Road, said the Yorktown Police.
But, instead of stopping, Gooden fled onto the Taconic State Parkway at speeds exceeding 100 mph while unsafely passing other motorists and committing numerous traffic violations, police said.

Police: Man Punches Victim, Breaks Cell Phone At 7-Eleven In Westchester
A man is facing charges after police say he punched a victim and broke a cell phone at a 7-Eleven in Northern Westchester.
Yorktown Police say they received a report of a physical altercation at the 7-Eleven at 1949 Commerce Street on Sunday, April 7 around 3:30 p.m.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Quameik Byrd of Yorktown, allegedly struck the victim with a closed fist and caused substantial pain, bruising and swelling, police said.
According to police, Byrd also threw and broke the victim’s cell phone, valued at $1,000.
