Scarsdale Schools Set To Close Tuesday Amid Snow Emergency

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – With the potentially historic winter storm rapidly approaching Westchester County, Scarsdale School District officials have canceled classes on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

With more than two feet of snow plus strong winds expected in Scarsdale, Assistant District Superintendent Linda Purvis announced schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27, with a determination on Wednesday’s status forthcoming, following the storm.

There will be no transportation to private or parochial schools, and Monday’s Board of Education meeting has been canceled.

According to the National Weather Service, “blizzard-like conditions” will begin Monday afternoon and continue through Tuesday night. As much as 16 inches of snow may fall overnight, with an additional seven to 11 inches expected on Tuesday. There will be blustery winds, with gusts reaching 35 mph and temperatures hovering around 25 degrees.

“The mayor, Robert Steves, has declared a state of emergency for Scarsdale after 9 p.m. this evening, meaning only emergency vehicles are permitted to travel on roads,” Purvis said. “Please avoid any unnecessary travel during this state of emergency.”
