Hundreds of friends, family and well-wishers flocked to the field Friday morning for the 99th Scarsdale High School Commencement Ceremony, where the latest class will prepare for their post-graduate lives.
Members of the student government thanked the faculty and administration that prepared them for college, while other student speakers shared stories and anecdotes from their four years at the high school.
During his address, High School Principal Kenneth encouraged his students to be lifelong learners and to continue questioning the things around them. In the wake of several shootings and incidents, he cited Martin Luther King Jr., encouraging the students to “meet hate with love.”
“I hope your time in class has fostered in you, a spirit of inquiry and of curiosity, and that we have encouraged you to question the world as it is and to have meaningful discussions, even with those who take a different viewpoint than your own,” he said.
“We are all challenged to be a part of the solution, and now you are our best hope in this regard. You now understand the value of personal connections and the ability of small acts to have a ripple effect that changes the world by making it better, even if it is just one person at a time.”
