SCARSDALE, N.Y. Dan Hochvert, a board member of the recently renovated Center@862, took some time to update Scarsdale trustees at Tuesday night's Village Board meeting Tuesday night following the teen centers open house on Sunday.
20 Questions, a jazz group from the Hoff-Barthelson Music School, and Scarsdale High School a cappella group For Good Measure performed for those in attendance, while chef Ellen Cohen of The Pampered Chef demonstrated recipes and sold cooking utensils.
Hochvert said that Cohen donated 15 percent of the proceeds from her sales to The Center@862.
We had a nice flow of kids and parents at the center, including our mayor [Miriam Levitt Flisser], he said. Chef Cohen demonstrated some cooking products and prepared several delicious treats for us.
During the open house, the community got the opportunity to see the overhauled center, and to meet the staff and volunteers that keep it running smoothly all year.
The teen center is looking for any opportunity to raise funds on its own, Hochvert said. We had an amazing amount of merchant support.
During his time in front of the trustees, Hochvert thanked the board for allowing The Center@862 to transform Supply Field into its Zombie Asylum haunted house. By not having to host the house of horrors at the center, it allows the center to remain open during the month.
What [utilizing Supply Field] allowed us to do was to keep the Teen Center open, rather than having no Teen Center for a month, he said. It really makes a lot of difference, particularly after having just refurbished the space.
