Wrong-Way Driver On Sprain Brook Parkway Charged With DWI, Police Say

A 29-year-old Yonkers man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after driving the wrong way on the Sprain Brook Parkway early Sunday morning, state police said Monday.

State Police in Hawthorne were dispatched to a report of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Sprain Brook Parkway in Mount Pleasant at approximately 4:41 a.m. Sunday.

Troopers located Rene Sanchez sleeping behind the wheel of his vehicle which was parked facing westbound in the southbound right shoulder of the Sprain Brook Parkway, police said.

Sanchez was charged with Felony DWI when a criminal history revealed a previous DWI related conviction from 2009. He was also charged with driving while intoxicated (a Class E felony), aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree (a misdemeanor) and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Sanchez provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .15 percent, police said. He was arraigned before the Town of Mount Pleasant Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail and scheduled to return to the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on May 19.
