On Friday afternoon, police arrested Tiffany Mason on forgery charges after she entered the Bank of America location on Christie Place with a clearly forged check, which the acting bank manager immediate recognized and alerted authorities.
According to police, Mason entered the bank and attempted to cash a check for $990. The bank manager, believing the check to be forged, noticed the check was made of non-check paper, had appeared to be photocopied or printed and the rear of the check was completely blank except for a signature.
Following further research, the bank manager established that the account number matched one of Bank of America’s patrons. After contacting the actual account holder, it was established the victim had never met Mason and the actual check was to an insurance company for $191.50.
Mason was subsequently arrested by responding police and charged with a felony charge of possessing a forged instrument, and misdemeanor counts of petit larceny and criminal possession of a weapon.
Following her arrest, Assistant District Attorney Craig Cecchini recommended a bail recommendation of $10,000 cash or bond, though Mason was arraigned by Village Judge Jack Alemany on $5,000 bail. Unable to pay the bail, Mason was remanded to Westchester County Jail.
