At approximately 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 19, officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Post Road in Scarsdale when they spotted a Ford Focus crossing over the pavement markings, prompting a traffic stop.
During the subsequent stop, the driver, Misty Ruiz, told officers she “had three shots of fireball several hours prior at a bar in White Plains,” police said. Officers reported that they detected a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and they described her eyes as glassy and bloodshot. There was also an open Modelo beer in the vehicle’s cup holder.
According to police, Ruiz failed multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and an alco-sensor FST displayed that she had a blood alcohol content of .13, nearly double the legal limit. When asked if she had any drugs on her, she alerted officers that she had cocaine inside her bra, which was wrapped in a dollar bill.
Ruiz was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent and criminal possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors. She was also charged with a violation for having an open container in her vehicle. Ruiz is due back in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday, March 22.
