Durst, who lived in South Salem, is awaiting an extradition hearing scheduled for Monday morning, CNN reported.
Durst's lawyer Chip Lewis told CNN the warrant and arrest were related to the 2000 slaying of Susan Berman, who was found shot to death in her home in Beverly Hills in December 2000. It was not clear what Durst was charged with.
A recent HBO documentary about Durst led legal authorities to reopen the case regarding his wife, Kathleen's disappearance, according to The New York Times.
Kathleen Durst disappeared from the couple's South Salem home after an argument in 1982 and according to New York State Police investigator Joseph C. Becerra, both his division and the Westchester District Attrorney's office are still looking into her disappearance, The New York Times reported.
In addition to his wife, Durst, 71, also had the Berman murder case reopened in Los Angeles, The New York Times said.
