Police are investigating an incident involving a suspicious, misaddressed package and a man who insisted it belonged to him,  sparking a strange scene at a Westchester business.

A resident of Walworth Avenue in Scarsdale reported to police last week that he had received a package from Macy’s which was addressed to “Tyrone Johnson.” After realizing that it was not intended for him, he told police he contacted Macy’s on Nov. 7 to advise of the mistake, but said Macy’s had “no interest in helping him.”

According to police, later that day, he found a note on the front door of his home that read “Hi, my name is Tyrone Johnson, a package of mine accidentally got sent here can you please contact me at (redacted).”

Believing it to be an innocent mistake, he called the number and told “Tyrone” that he would leave the package at a Popham Road business, where he could pick it up. The package was left with a receptionist, who was instructed by the Walworth Road resident to get ID from the man who attempted to pick up the package.

Police said that someone who identified himself as Tyrone Johnson came to the receptionist and failed to produce ID, becoming agitated in the process. “Due to his level of aggravation, (the receptionist) gave him the package and he left without further incident,” police said.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6-feet tall with a skinny build and short cut hair. He was wearing a T-shirt and jeans when he attempted to pick up the package.

Police said that a similar incident happened recently in New Rochelle. They cautioned that if something of this nature occurs, the department should be contacted first before any other action is taking. It is currently under investigation.
