Shortly after noon on Thursday, June 8, police were dispatched to Wayside Lane, where there were reports of a driver that had driven into another car and sped off.
According to a report filed with police, 42-year-old Alison Abramson was sitting in her car at 37 Wayside Lane, blocking the parking lot from other drivers. A driver behind her told police that when she approached the vehicle, it appeared that Abramson was asleep at the wheel. Upon being woken up and advised she was blocking an active driveway, Abramson backed into the other driver’s car and drove away.
While responding to the crash, police were re-routed to the intersection of Church Street and Wayside Lane, where Abramson had been stopped by officers on patrol after initially refusing to pull over.
When asked by officers as to why she hadn’t pulled over promptly, police said that Abramson replied that “she didn’t know what to do when the patrol car was behind her.” Officers noted that there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, and when asked for her driver’s license, Abramson instead gave police a medical ID card and a business card for a dog groomer.
Officers reported that Abramson could not find her license. There was also a child in a car seat secured in the back of the vehicle with her son, whose age was not disclosed. Abramson told police that she wasn’t aware that she had damaged her car during the earlier accident, and that any damage to the vehicle or tire was because it was “old.”
Abramson failed multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and an also-sensor pre-screening test determined her blood alcohol content was .179 percent, more than double the legal limit. She made arrangements for a nanny to take her son and was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. She was also cited for leaving the scene of an accident and failure to obey a police officer, infractions. Abramson is due back in court later this year.
