According to Scarsdale Det. Lt. Thomas Altizio, Madeleina Katz, 22, was charged with felony counts of second-degree grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument.
On Monday, Oct. 7, a Cornell Street family reported to police that they noticed their bank balance was $93,350 light. Chase officials and the police were subsequently alerted to the potential fraud and an investigation began.
According to police, the check used to make the fraudulent withdrawal was likely a forgery, not a copy of a check. It is not believed that there was any connection between Katz and the victims, police said. Katz was arraigned by Judge John Galloway in Scarsdale before being transported to Westchester County Jail, where she is being held on $25,000 cash bail or bond.
