Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday night, police pulled over John Carmody, 23, on Post Road near the intersection of Olmsted Road, when an officer observed him driving his Honda with no operating tail lamps.

Upon approaching the vehicle, responding officers “detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on (the driver’s) breath, whose eyes were glassy and bloodshot. The operator also slurred his words while he spoke.”

The driver told police that he was traveling from White Plains, and that he had been drinking vodka and orange juice within the past hour. According to the police report, Carmody “appeared to be falling asleep as patrol spoke to him.”

Responding officers observed an empty Georgi Vodka bottle in the passenger side door in plain view. When asked if the bottle was his, the driver replied that “I’m not sure. I have no comment.”

When exiting the vehicle, Carmody was unsteady on his feet, using his hands to balance himself on his vehicle to steady himself from swaying. He failed several standardized field sobriety tests and consistently struggled to maintain his balance.

Following the field sobriety tests, Carmody submitted to an also-sensor pre screening test, which displayed a reading of .237 percent, nearly triple the legal limit in New York. At police headquarters, a Datamaster DMT test showed that he had a blood alcohol content of .22 percent.

Carmody was released on his own recognizance to a friend’s custody. He received an appearance ticket and is due back in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday.
