U.S. Plans To Blame Iran For Westchester Cyber Attack

The Obama administration intends to blame a 2013 cyber attack on the Bowman Avenue Dam in Rye Brook on hackers working for the Iranian government, according to multiple reports.

Federal authorities have long voiced concerns about the impact hackers could have on what many consider to be a vulnerable infrastructure, according to CNN.

Though the Bowman Avenue Dam is part of that infrastructure, the cyber attackers were unable to gain access to the dam's operational systems, according to CNN.

Still, when word of the hack became public late last year, locals were concerned over the fact that the government failed to come forward with the information sooner.

Naming Iran as the source of the hack is part of a strategy by the administration to "name and shame" those nations and individuals believed to be responsible for such attacks, according to CNN.
