According to multiple reports, a teen suspect has been apprehended and charged in the death of Catherine Johannet, who was found dead on a hiking trail on Colon Island earlier this year.

Officials said Johannet was hit in the back of her head and neck before she was strangled with her own bathing suit. She was missing for several days before her body was discovered.

DNA evidence helped identify the suspect, according to the Panama Public Ministry.

A 2011 graduate of Edgemont High School and 2015 graduate of Columbia University, Johannet was last seen on Thursday, Feb. 2, when she traveled to Bastimentos Island from nearby Colon Island. Her body was found three days later.

Johannet was employed as a teacher in Vietnam at Ivy Prep from July 2015 until October 2016, according to her LinkedIn profile.
