Scarsdale Parade, Gathering to Mark Memorial Day

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Scarsdale gets a chance to publicly honor its fallen soldiers Monday when American Legion Post 52 holds its annual Memorial Day parade and program.

The parade forms in the village at 9 a.m. at Boniface Circle and is scheduled to step off on Spencer Place at 9:15 a.m.

The ceremonies are expected to feature speeches by Gen. Evo Raguzzi, Assembly member Amy Paulin, and, tentatively, U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey. There will be color guards from the Marines, the Scarsdale police and the American Legion.

"For a small village, we get a tremendous turnout" for the parade, said Thomas Adamo of Scarsdale, commander of American Legion Post 52.

Adamo, who served in the 507th Signal Corps in Korea, said that, traditionally, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, Cub Scouts, Daisies, the Legion, bands, and others have taken part in the parade.

"Just about all the groups in the village," Adamo said.

Following the parade, ceremonies will continue at the Scarsdale American Legion Memorial Garden on Mamaroneck Road, next to the village swimming pool.

The Memorial Garden pays tribute to those who were killed or injured in all American wars, as well as those who died or were injured in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City and the Pentagon.
