SCARSDALE, N.Y. Zachys Wine and Liquor in Scarsdale will provide the wine for the second annual Guiding Eyes for the Blind Wine Tasting featuring Amy Dixon, a blind Sommelier, and her guide dog, Elvis.
The tasting will take place from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Guiding Eyes for the Blind, an internationally accredited nonprofit guide dog school headquartered at 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, N.Y. Attendees will receive a tour of Guiding Eyes for the Blinds facility and are invited to watch training demonstrations by the organizations elite guide dogs.
Tickets to the event include the facility tour, demonstrations and wine tasting. Ticket prices start at $100 per guest and include a take-home guide to wine selections. Additionally, there are ticket options for a take-home bottle of wine hand selected by Dixon, as well as a personal wine consultation. The deadline for reservations is Sunday, Oct. 9.
Dixon is a certified wine specialist from the Society of Wine Educators and is studying to become one of 213 Masters of Wine in the world, a dozen of them women. Funds raised from the wine tasting will support Guiding Eyes programs and services.
Guiding Eyes for the Blind (www.guidingeyes.org) was founded in 1954 to enrich the lives of blind and visually impaired men and women by providing them guide dogs. Since that time, Guiding Eyes has graduated more than 7,000 guide dog teams. It provides guide dogs, professional training and follow-up support services to students at no cost to them and depends on contributions to fulfill its mission. The comprehensive cost of breeding, raising, preparing, training, and supporting a Guiding Eyes team is $45,000. Guiding Eyes for the Blind's Headquarters and Training Center is located in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. and the Canine Development Center is in Patterson, N.Y.
