Robber Snatches Jewelry In Midday Scarsdale Theft

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A man pretending to be a customer dashed out of a Scarsdale jewelry shop with two diamond rings Saturday, Oct. 22, in a brazen midday robbery, police said.

The man, who had checked out the rings in an earlier visit, returned about 1:30 p.m. to Sam Lehr Designer Jewelry at 28 Harwood Court and asked to see them again, then raced out the door and through the tunnel toward Popham Road, according to a Scarsdale Police report.

The man was described as a black man in his mid-30s to early 40s, bald, clean-shaven, wearing a long-sleeved plain white T-shirt and blue jeans. The rings, described as diamond center stone rings, were reported to be worth a total of $15,000.

Police said the vehicle thought to be used by the robber was seen, but a canvass of the area did not turn up the suspect. Police said the suspect's image may be on three separate security cameras, including one at the jewelry store.

Scarsdale detectives are investigating the robbery.
