Thomas DiNapoli’s just-released report said heroin use and overdose deaths associated with the drug have both surpassed national averages, The Poughkeepsie Journal reported.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state lawmakers are poised to approve tougher drug laws and to expand treatment options, The Poughkeepsie Journal story said.
The Poughkeepsie Journal, quoting state health officials, said Dutchess County had the highest rate of opioid-related overdoses from 2009-13 at 5.5 per 100,000 people.
