More than 150 locations were impacted by fallen trees, 70 percent of which involved downed power lines, officials said. Wind gusts as high as 80 mph came through the village, and officials are still trying to determine how much damage was caused by the storm, according to Deputy Village Manager Stephen Pappalardo.
As of 4 p.m. on Tuesday, 4,113 Con Edison customers were without power, more than two thirds of the 6,070 served by the energy company.
“We’ve actively started the cleanup process, and we have workers out in force,” an employee at Scarsdale Village Hall said. “At this point, it’s impossible for us to know when everything will be up and running.”
Grand Boulevard appeared to be hit the hardest in the village, with 14 outages for a total of 924 customers. Downed wires on Madison Road have knocked out power to 468 customers and Sheldrake Place suffered a broken power pole that has left 193 customers in the dark.
Despite a slew of wires on the ground and trees perilously leaning on poles and power lines, residents took to the streets to get a peek at the damage. Many were shocked by what they saw.
On Post Road, a massive tree was snapped clean in half, bringing down a series of service wires before landing on a blue BMW. Traffic lights were out of service, causing chaos for motorists and police personnel. Sherbrooke Road was completely blocked by a fallen tree that took down a street lamp, and various street signs were blown clear out of the ground.
