This is the first in a series of three profiles of candidates for judge for the New York State Supreme Court, 9th Judicial District. Profiles of the other two candidates, Edward Borrelli and Robert DiBella, will appear Thursday and Friday.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. White Plains Attorney Paul Marx is one of three candidates on the Nov. 8 ballot for two seats on the New York State Supreme Court, 9th Judicial District, and the only one that does not list judge on his resume.
A practicing attorney for 28 years, Marx, who is running on the Democratic, Working Families and Independent lines, earned his Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1981 and his bachelors degree at State University of New York, Plattsburgh in 1977. He has served as chairman of the Westchester Bar and Ethics Committee chairman. He was a member of the Somers Zoning Board of Appeals and an Angel Flight pilot, flying sick and injured people to receive medical treatment.
According to his campaign statement, As a practicing trial and appellate attorney for the past 28 years, I have unparalleled experience in the courtroom representing clients in virtually all of the types of cases that are tried in the Supreme Court, including personal injury, professional liability, civil rights, municipal liability and insurance. I have taught continuing legal education in the fields of ethics, evidence, trial practice and procedure and have served as an arbitrator at the request of the administrative judge. My reputation for intellect, knowledge of the law, demeanor, integrity, sensitivity and temperament is impeccable and would allow me to become outstanding Supreme Court Justice.
The Supreme Court of the State of New York is the Court of general state wide jurisdiction, in which most civil cases are tried. The Ninth Judicial District includes the counties of Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess and Putnam.
