Amtrak Suspends Northeast Corridor Service After Two Killed In Derailment

Two people are reported dead after an Amtrak passenger train that departed Sunday morning from New York derailed south of Philadelphia, according to multiple reports.

The two fatalities occurred near the backhoe, according to CNN.

Amtrak has suspended Northeast corridor service after the train hit a backhoe that was on the tracks near Chester, Pennsylvania just before 8 a.m., Amtrak said. The train was bound for Savannah, Georgia.

About 341 passengers and seven crew members were aboard the train, according to CNN.
