SCARSDALE, N.Y. - Nancy A. Benson, Ph.D., died at her home in Scarsdale on Nov. 24, following a long illness. She was 81.
A professor of English literature, she had a long career at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry until her retirement in 2008. During her tenure at the college, she was director of the honor's program.
Dr. Benson graduated from Goucher College and earned a master's degree from Sarah Lawrence College, as well as a doctorate from the City University of New York Graduate Center and a master of pedagogy at Mercy College.
She is survived by her husband William L. Benson, her daughters Nancy Benson Rothenberg, Gail Benson, Carol Benson and Wendy Benson, her brother Newton Anderson, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be announced at a future date.
