SCARSDALE, N.Y. - When the supercars roll into to Scarsdale during the annual Concours d’Elegance this fall, a local family hoping to eradicate childhood cancer in honor of their son will be one of the beneficiaries.

This year, officials with the Concours d’Elegance have named the PaulieStrong Foundation as one of its beneficiaries, with portions of proceeds from the popular event being used to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer.

The PaulieStrong Foundation was created by Paul and Ioana Kreatsoulas Jimenez after they lost their 10-year-old son Paulie to a rare form of cancer following a three-month battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma.

According to Paul, childhood cancer receives less than 4 percent of all cancer research funding, prompting him to raise awareness of the inequities.

“He was such a fun loving and amazing child who was loved by so many. He was our world, and we miss him so very much,” his father said. “Until you are pulled into the world of childhood cancer, you just do not realize how little funding goes to support research into a cure.”

Since its founding less than eight months ago, the PaulieStrong Foundation has raised more than $150,000 to benefit pediatric sarcoma research at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. They hope to continue that trend this fall during the first annual "Drive for a Cure" event.

“The goal of the PauliStrong Foundation, through our partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is to raise awareness and funding for researching a cure for pediatric cancers,” Paul added. “Today’s children are the world’s future and they deserve more than 4 percent.”

Since 2003, the Concours d’Elegance has been a stable in Scarsdale, with some of the world’s finest cars lining village streets for Westchester’s finest car show.

According to the founders, the show was created for three reasons: to showcase Scarsdale students as part of a constructive and giving community; their passion for new and vintage cars; and to raise large sums of money for local charities.

Last year, more than 125 car owners participated in the event, with $32,000 being spread out among the White Plains Hospital, Scarsdale and Edgemont Family Counseling Service, the Wounded Warriors Family Assistance Fund and the Scarsdale Foundation.

This year, the Scarsdale Concours d’Elegance will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2.

“Pediatric cancers are vastly underfunded,” Kelli Klasko said from Memorial Sloan Kettering. “Therefore, philanthropic support from the PaulieStrong Foundation is crucial in advancing breakthrough research and clinical trials for pediatric cancers.”
